5 Things Psychedelic Porn Crumpets' Danny Looks Forward To When He's About To Tour

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets new album is titled 'Night Gnomes'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Australia's loveable psych-rock lords, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets return with their fifth studio album 'Night Gnomes' – the delectable follow-up to their 2021 record and ARIA Award nominated 'SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound'.

'Night Gnomes' features previous singles 'Bubblegum Infinity', 'Lava Lamp Pisco', 'Acid Dent' and 'Dread & Butter', bringing the listener inside the weirdly wonderful brand of vibrancy the band have built a solid reputation since forming in 2014.

The record also finds the band exploring their sonic influences and creative tangents more than previous releases.

"'Night Gnomes' is a bit darker than the other four releases," begins frontman and songwriter, Jack McEwan.

"I don't know if that's the by-product of being locked inside Western Australia for the past two years, but it's definitely given us a lot of time to think.

"I reckon this record has a bit more of a 'Kid A' & 'Amnesiac' vibe to it, it's a bit weirder, a little left of the 'psych/ pop' world we've been tagged under.

"I kinda like that though, forever expanding, variety is the spice of life! It starts moody, talks of break-ups and new relationships; gets kinda chirpy in the middle and then ends really beautifully, a bit like 'Jurassic Park 3'.

"I reckon Spielberg might actually rate it, he's a mixture of a bag, ain't he.

"All in all I'm very proud of everyone's efforts, it's a step up which is a good direction to be stepping and it's a good body of work that I'm happy to share with the world, our little patch of darkness.

"And if deeper isn't your cup of moonshine, then at least you know the sixth album will be upbeat as f...!"

With the band already revealing a massive run of shows across the UK, Europe and United States (from August to early November), the band have just dropped a bunch of Aussie dates as well. Bonus round indeed.

With shows planned in Sydney, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane in July, the group's drummer, Danny Caddy, shares five things he's looking forward to about this run of shows.

Rish DJ

One of the best things about travelling in one van is moulding together our collective music tastes and recent discoveries.

Our drives between cities/ countries have sometimes been up to 13 hours long at a time, so we take a deep dive into what each other is listening to over the course of a couple of months.

Rish likes to sit up front driving and so often we're subject to what he listens to. Luckily he's good at it.

Jack's Castles

Jack is always trying to find detours on our travel days. Stops at waterfalls and castles are often initiated by him, and if he didn't do that, we might all just be spending our down time nursing hangovers at cafes instead.

We're all excited to get back out into the world and see some scenery and historical spots; I really miss that aspect of touring.

Chris' Weird Van Snacks

Chris is good at finding weird vegan snacks in bizarre service stops. He is the nutritional expert keeping us alive.

We need him in some of the southern states of the US where the only food we can find is Dennys, and in certain European countries where language barriers make it impossible to find a meal without cheese.

In some places the food side of things gets rough, but I'm looking forward to those amazing finds that we get every now and again.

Billy's Tones

Our bass man Billy hasn't been on the road with us yet, so it'll be great travelling with him through the places he hasn't seen before.

It's also always great meeting new crew members and picking up old friends as we pass through their home towns. Some of us have family in these destinations that we haven't seen in two or three years, so that will be something very special to look forward to.

Supports

Spending time with the bands that travel with us through their own countries is one of my favourite things about touring.

Bands we've travelled with on previous tours (such as Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Meat Bodies, Levitation Room, Crows, Calva Louise, Royal Blood) have all been so accommodating and great to be around. Looking forward to hanging with Acid Dad in US later this year.
