5 Sydney Underground Bands Astrodeath Highly Recommend

Astrodeath are a sludge, hard rock duo from Sydney.

Sydney sludge/ hard rock duo Astrodeath, who recently dropped their new single 'Ceremonial Blood', are currently on the road touring.

Experimenting with dark melody while still staying true to their big-riff style and aggressive delivery, 'Ceremonial Blood' is their third single off the upcoming album release 'Vol.2'.

Astrodeath frontman Tim Lancken (Yoshi Hausler on drums) says of the new single/ music video clip: "With a fist full of new songs and the pent-up energy of two years of minimal head bangs, we're champing at the bit to get out and throw down, rallying some of our favourite bands to support us and they've all got some fury to unleash.

"We think 'Ceremonial Blood' is the best song we've made to date and hereby formally invite all who head bang to come lay waste to venues across the country with us. We'll see you in the pit!"

After shows in Melbourne and just returned from a Gold Coast-Brisbane trip, and never ones to shy away from supporting others in the scene, Tim and Yoshi share their top five Sydney underground bands; all of which you should definitely go and see at your earliest convenience.

1: Mountain Wizard Death Cult

The Wizzes are probably the best band in the world. We're hoping they remember us when they're selling out stadiums.

2: Black Rheno

These guys are a powerhouse trio - guitar, drums, and vocals (no bass player like us).

Black Rheno know how to start a party. Get them in front of 200 drunk people and there WILL be a wall of death! Ryan (vocals) is usually participating in said wall of death while the band is slaying on stage. It's fun. It's wild. It's a must see.

They've played huge shows, toured internationally, and are a force in the local scene. If you like it loud you've surely heard of them but if you haven't – get on it!

3: Carnal Viscera

Carnal Viscera are just an absolutely insane live act. This video just about sums up how funny and disturbingly brutal this band is at its core. Be sure to catch a show if they're in your town and have your head pummelled in the mosh.

4: Seethin

Seethin are one of the finest underground hardcore bands hailing out of the Sydney gutters at the moment.

Straight up d-beat goodness with a lick of doominess strewn through the wall of sound that is garnished with the most punishing, gut-wrenching growls on this side of the Hawkesbury.

Check out this live laneway gig they ripped up DIY style.

5: Flaming Wrekage

The Flaming Wrekage boys are something else – the kind of band you watch with your jaws open, and the only words that can make it out of your mouth are "what the f..".

The musicianship is peak, drumming like you wouldn't believe. You'd be hard pressed finding a better blast beat in the country. It's actually insane.

I know, I know, you're saying "yeah right. . . heard it all before. . . everyone does blast beats", but nah, check it. The level of shred is maxing – flame on.

Dark Horse

Also, we're kind of on a roll here. Dark Horse is Dark Horse. Period. We know this is a list of five, but then there's Dark Horse. So there you have it. Go get your brain crushed.
