Melbourne five-piece rockers LOSER, fresh off supporting Ruby Fields on her extensive regional tour, have just dropped their debut album 'Mindless Joy' – via James Tidswell's (Violent Soho) label Domestic La La.
'Mindless Joy' explores vocalist/ guitarist/ songwriter Tim Maxwell's anxiety towards and discontent with the rush and pressure of modern life. He’s particularly interested in how technology perpetuates that cycle of 'mindless joy'."It's still guitar music," reflects Maxwell, "but it's not just Weezer pop chords. There are well thought-out guitar parts, and there's solos and big rock choruses."
Ahead of a home-town launch show next month, here guitarist Jake 'Cutter' Farrugia shares five sources of 'mindless joy' while on the road with Loser.
1: Stinky Silver
I'm not sure if that is the official name for the game, but that's what we call it. For Stinky Silver, you need a 20c coin and an empty pint glass. What you do is you place the pint glass on the floor about 4m away, then you take the coin and while fully clothed you put it between your ass cheeks and clench tightly then walk as casually as possible towards the pint glass.
When you get over the top of pint glass you release the coin and try to get it in the pint glass. A tip for making things interesting is to put some obstacles to jump over or around or make a relay out of it.
