5 Songs That Take You On A Musical Journey With Tay Oskee

After a bright start to 2017 with his win at the Byron Bay Blues Festival Busking Competition, Tay Oskee continues to be on the rise with the release of his single, 'Cut Like The Wind'.

The new single brings in a darker and more experimental edge to his previous work. “After that initial riff, which we though brought a lot of joy I came up with the idea for the structure and lyrics of the song,” Tay says, “which was breaking out of that moment in your life when you’re not too sure whether you’re on the right path and you’re feeling down and confused.”

In keeping with that theme of finding the right path, Tay shares 5 songs that take him on a musical journey ahead of a run of shows in Queensland and regional NSW.

1. Fat Freddy's Drop - 'Roady'

Anyone that knows me will tell you Fat Freddy's are my favourite band. They have too many songs that take me on a journey, but the fact that this is a hit song without a set chorus or verse is so good. It's catchy, feel-good reggae and with a simple, but genius change to a minor chord it suddenly becomes this huge pumping reggae/ hip hop jam. Live is ten times better!

2. Battles - 'Tonto'

Ridiculous musicians layering crazy guitars and weird vocals. The song masterfully takes you on a journey from grooving prog-rock to the best drop ever at 3.26 and back down to a peaceful outro.

3. LCD Soundsystem - 'All My Friends'

Just a beautiful song, no need for fancy chord changes. I love how it uses just enough layers to build and take you to goosebump town without over doing it.

4. Toumani Diabaté - 'Cantelowes'

In my opinion this is the greatest piece of music to come out of one man and his instrument. Even if I'm in a crappy mood putting on some headphones and being immersed in these sounds seriously takes me to another place. The more I listen the more I'm amazed at how he actually is doing it all.

5. Jose Gonzales - Cycling Trivialities

This song draws me in, gives me the chills and then relaxes me so much I pretty much fall asleep. A masterpiece.
