5 Shared Temptations With Mermaid Avenue

Brisbane band Mermaid Avenue release their debut album 'Temptation & Half The Truth'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A regular of Brisbane’s live music scene since their debut in 2015, Mermaid Avenue mix their indie rock and alt.country with a healthy dose of '90s classicism and Oz rock swagger on their debut record, ‘Temptation & Half The Truth’, which they will launch with a home-town show in August.

Before they reach that milestone, the band share 5 temptations they collectively share.

1. Yacht rock.

Our drummer loves to sit back and make it smooth like late period Doobie Brothers. Weird.

2. Craft beer.

For an indie band it’s expensive, but the floral notes of melon and passionfruit distract from the smell of five guys just hanging out in a room together.

3. Leather bikie vests.

Ok, let’s get this straight. It’s just our bass player’s thing.

4. Songs with no names.

Hey, not everyone can come up with a three sentence song name like Morrissey. Special shout-out to Shane MacGowan And The Popes for ‘A Song With No Name’. Brilliant.

5. 'Radar Love' by Golden Earring.

Hailed by our Dutch keyboardist as the greatest song ever by a Dutchman. Closely followed by anything by the Van Halen brothers.

Mermaid Avenue launch their debut album ‘Temptation & Half The Truth’ at Black Bear Lodge (Brisbane) 12 August.
