5 Self-Care Tips After A Break-Up Shared By Dulcie

Dulcie are an indie pop trio from Perth.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

After the release of single 'Tell Ur Friends' started their 2022, Dulcie have wasted no time in serving up their next dose of indie-pop goodness.

'Nothing Left' (to be released 22 April) has allowed the group to delve further into emotive songwriting, exploring new themes and sounds, as the lyrics detail the inevitability of a situation that simply isn't working.

"'Nothing Left' is about acknowledging the breakdown of a relationship," the trio says.

"It's the decision that it's easier to walk away than to try to make things work. We've taken a pop direction with this new track, incorporating lots of new sounds and ideas."

Ahead of a home-town show, Dulcie delve deeper into the pain of a relationship break-up, the ladies sharing their tips for self-care in the wake of the emotional turmoil attached to any split.

1: Bath/ shower

There's a classic saying of 'I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair', and that's exactly the best thing to do.

Run a bath, or hop in the shower, grab your shampoo bottle microphone and use the steam as your very own smoke machine; within minutes you're headlining Glastonbury and forgetting why it was you were crying on your bed in the dark ten minutes ago.

2: Journaling

Write it down. Get it out and get it onto paper. It's always good to vent it out through words, hell, write a song, it doesn't matter if it's good, it's cathartic. It's all part of the healing process.

So scribble out the love hearts that surround their name, and get used to doing the big, thick, fat black marker Xs and erase them out of your life.

3: Have a drink

Now this one isn't for everyone; we can always go a little too far and drown our sorrows too much that we end up a sorrowful, pitiful state of a human the next day when our tongue is sandpaper and our head is really not loving the sound of the beeping, reversing lorry outside our window.

BUT, in moderation, with your closest pals, chat it out over a couple of drinks, and get your best friends to tell you what they really thought of your ex.

4: Cry it out

Put on that Bon Iver album and cry in your car for as long as you need. Once you get it all out you'll feel much better for it.

5: Fitness & Endorphins

Those happy, little hormones like to come out whether you're dancing in front of the mirror, or roller-skating 'round the park, or practising your strut in preparation for your first night out.

Channel that heartbreak into getting that booty moving, shaking, and definitely earthquaking. You got this!

Dulcie play Rosemount Hotel (Perth) 22 April. They also support Amy Shark on her WA regional tour (19 May to 4 June) that visits Bunbury, Mandurah, Margaret River, Albany, Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Merredin, Geraldton, Karratha and Broome.
