5 Regurgitator Elements Screamfeeder's Tim Steward Loves

Regurgitator's '25 Years Of UNIT' mini festival takes place at Eatons Hill Outdoors & Ballroom (Brisbane) 25 March.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

To mark the 25th anniversary (last November) of their 'UNIT' album, ('Polyester Girl' is 25!), Regurgitator will perform the record in all its pixelated density, along with an extended set of their hits across time at a special mini festival at Eatons Hill Hotel tomorrow.

They'll be joined together in plasma by a plethora of dynamic musical cohorts they've curated: DZ Deathrays, Custard, Models, Butterfingers, Screamfeeder, Resin Dogs and many more for a full day of live music across two stages with no crossovers.

As the presser says: 'Code for rhymes. Products of time.'

A band who grew up alongside Regurgitator in Brisbane's music scene in the '90s, Screamfeeder's fuzz-pop catalogue has soundtracked many a music lover's formative years as well as remaining on playlists long after most of their contemporaries have faded from existence.

Last year, the quartet of Tim Steward, Kellie Lloyd, Darek Mudge and Phil Usher released their first album in five years.

'Five Rooms' was recorded with producer Anna Laverty (Courtney Barnett, Camp Cope) and mixed by Beau Sorenson (Superchunk, Bob Mould) and Travis Harrison (Guided By Voices, Built To Spill). It finds the band at their peak some 30-years deep into their career.

"The Pixelrise is coming down and we're gonna have a party. . . Form an orderly queue. Bow down. We are all units," shares Screamfeeder.

Here, Tim shares five elements he loves about Regurgitator.

1: Quan smiling through an avalanche of gear fails, technical mishaps, logistics headaches, audience chaos and other hurdles which would make lesser bands cry/ whine/ give up/ all three.

2: Shane bouncing around onstage with his guitar-keyboard, sweaty and totally in the moment, again smiling crazily.

3: Quan's spiky thin, clean guitar tone breaking all the rules in grunge-era Brisbane.

4: Ben's wide-eyed innocence/ enthusiasm when talking about music or – anything really.

5: Pogogo Show: amazing, short, concise, clever, funny, irreverent, catchy songs evoking Devo and totally nailing the kid=appeal.
