Last year, Kingswood embarked on the longest ever music tour of Australia.
Spread across 6 months, 112 shows, and taking in every corner of Australia while playing to 60,000 fans, Kingswood documented the adventure with young filmmakers Darcy Newton and Luca Catalano.Titled 'Claptrap', the film follows the band and the relentless grind of touring life as they navigated such an expansive undertaking on the road. While bringing them closer together, it also pushed the band into visceral emotional territory.
"The documentary process was unusual and fantastical," songwriter-guitarist Alexander Laska says. "The most compelling aspect was being aware of, and wilfully subjecting to the experience of one's life being documented in the pursuit of artistic expression."
The film will be screened at a number of events in April, visiting Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide, Byron Bay, Brisbane and Sydney, with Kingswood attending select screenings. "It was surprising how quickly and easily I was able to live as if there wasn't a camera in my face all day," songwriter-guitarist Fergus Linacre says.
"Credit to Darcy and his ability to shoot surreptitiously, and to gain our trust. This enabled him to shoot more real-life moments providing the depth and intimacy you experience in the film."
Here, the band share five regional towns they've played they reckon other bands should add to their touring itinerary. "I stayed off the east coast for this little insight," shares Fergus. "There are plenty of hidden gems that way, but I wanted to shed some light on less-trodden tracks."
Exmouth, WA
Exmouth is incredible, the marine life (if you have the time) will blow your mind. Charles Knife Canyon is also worth the trip. The people are fun, mostly travellers looking for a good time. We played Froth Craft Brewery and it was one of the best shows of the whole tour.
Alice Springs, NT
Alice Springs is wildly beautiful with swimming holes eddying out of tiny gaps in the huge, long mountain range. We played the brewery, and the locals made it a special one. It's a town that's struggling, can be confronting, but important. More bands and artists should make the trip.Albany, WA
Way down south of WA is a great town called Albany, and if you book a show, the folks will come. We've had three or four sold-out shows there now and can't wait to go back. Six Degrees is the joint, great food and drinks. Albany is a ripping town. Good fishing too.Port Lincoln, SA
Sound City. A little, living-room feeling music shop converts to a live venue. We played two nights in a row. The owners are the ones behind the bar and you feel at home. A beautiful town that's almost as far from Adelaide as Melbourne is, but worth the trip.
Aldinga Beach, SA
In the heart of wine country is a winery called Big Easy Radio. This place is incredibly beautiful, homely, and the punters that keep returning know how to let their hair down. Great wine, great shows, great country.Kingswood Claptrap 2025 Screenings Dates
