5 Reasons Why Sophian Manik Would Struggle Immensely To Live Without The Ocean

Joining him for the night are locals Beats Club and Moth Street Artists. "Super, super excited to announce that I will be playing my debut show with my full band," Sophian says.

"This has been a long time coming and I can't wait to share this special night with all of you."

Here, Sophian gets inside his feels sharing his love for the ocean and what it means to him personally.

1: I grew up on a tiny island most of my life, so I didn't really have much of a choice but to like the water, haha. I'm also pretty damn sure I would have been in the ocean for a few hours at least every single day!

My mum started taking me to the beach from a very young age and I got very used to and comfortable with being around the water.

The small island I grew up on was called Malé, it's the capital of the Maldives. So when I was looking at my options for moving out of the country (for my studies mainly) I knew I had to move somewhere where the ocean was close.

My wife also happens to be from Perth, and one thing lead to another I ended up moving to Perth and well, pretty lucky to say the ocean is close by!

2: Even from a young age, whenever I had a bad day or had any form of stress or anxiety, going to the ocean for a swim/ surf always helped me relax and it was the one thing without fail that would always reset me and put me back into good spirits.

It is something I practice to this day. Whenever things are getting a bit overwhelming or I am stressed I will head down to the beach for a swim. Yes even in winter haha, the freezing cold water in fact sometimes is even better!

3: Marine life. I mean come on! It's like another world out there. Going for a free-dive and seeing all the amazing sea creatures is pretty breathtaking. There is also something so soothing about watching fish swim, it's just so elegant. Nat Geo but in real life aha!

4: When I'm not busy working on my music I spend a lot of time doing research on marine life (quiz me I dare ya, jokes please don't) but it's also what I studied back in university.

Because of my love for the ocean I ended up doing my degree in marine science and marine biology. I never formally ended up working as a marine biologist after because I got drawn into making music my career, but it's still something I'm quite passionate about.

5: A lot of the music I write will have some form of reference to the ocean/ sea. And that's because of the deep connection I have with it. So I mean, if I lived in a landlocked country, could I even write music anymore?
