Melbourne band The Heartache State, fronted by Nick Barker, release their new album, 'Last Of The Buffalo', today (1 September).

“This is the second Heartache State album. It really feels like a band now, loose but with a lot of spirit. Making it was easy and fun, and that's what playing music was always supposed to be... we love the bloody thing!” says The Heartache State.

Ahead of shows in September and October, Nick shares 5 music moments from VFL players that really should never have happened. Ever.

1. VFL stars sing the Channel 7 theme song

A classic from the '80s featuring Gary Ablett Snr, Dipper and Gerard Healy among others; excruciating.

2. Peter McKenna: 'Smile All The While'

The Collingwood great has a good crack at pop music, sitting on a chair by himself with a backing track.

3. Warwick Capper: 'I Only Take What's Mine'

I'm a Swans supporter, but this is horrible! “Big deals, fast wheels, I feel it coming” is the opening line and pretty much goes downhill from there. The film clip features Warwick drying his hair shirtless and is full of bikini-clad models… Also a duel guitar solo.

4. Mark 'Jacko' Jackson: 'I'm An Individual'

Geelong full forward (he also played with Melbourne and St. Kilda); one of the last great personalities in VFL/ AFL. I actually love this song: “I’m an individual, you can’t fool me, an indi-bloody-vidual, you can’t fool me”. The clip features Jacko marching along in a wife beater waving his arms around; bring him back.

5. Jacko again: 'Me Brain Hurts'

This clip has some great, incredible bad-video effects and this classic '80s synth track with the immortal line: "Me brain hurts, Me noggins on the blink, Me brain hurts, It’s driving me to drink."
