Scenestr
Jackie Barnes

Something slightly dangerous is happening at Team Musicare HQ in Clontarf (City of Moreton Bay in Greater Brisbane) on Thursday 12 March.

For one night only, the walls of the studio will rattle with sticks, stories and serious touring knowledge when Jackie Barnes storms the room for a rare 2.5 hour masterclass before he heads off to join his dad, Jimmy Barnes, on the Working Class Man 40th anniversary tour.

Participants will get an up-close look at Jackie's endorsed touring setup, featuring Gretsch Drums, Paiste Cymbals, Evans Drumheads, and Promark Sticks.

No polite seminar energy here. This is the real deal. One room. Two and a half hours. A drummer heading out on a national tour the next morning.

Bring your curiosity. The sticks will do the talking. 🥁🔥!

Here are five very good reasons to get yourself in the room.

1: Learn The Tricks From The Source

This is not YouTube. This is not a dusty drum clinic in a music shop.

This is Jackie Barnes in the room, breaking down the techniques, grooves and instincts that come from years of real stages, real bands and real audiences.

Expect insight, war stories and a few drumming truths that only come from doing the job for real.

2: The Night Before The Tour Bus Leaves

Timing matters. Jackie walks into Team Musicare HQ the night before heading out on tour with Jimmy Barnes celebrating the 40th anniversary of 'Working Class Man'.

That means fresh road stories, fresh rehearsal energy and a glimpse into the machine that keeps one of Australia's biggest rock tours rolling.

3: Ask The Questions Nobody Else Will

There will be a full Q&A session where nothing is off the table.

Drumming. Touring. Surviving the music industry. Gear disasters. The moments when everything goes wrong and somehow the show still goes on.

Bring questions. Jackie will bring answers.

4: Meet The Man Behind The Drum Kit

Every great drummer has a secret weapon: the tech who keeps the beast running.

Jackie's drum technician Bryan Macaranas will join the night to reveal the backstage mechanics of touring drum rigs. How they build them, maintain them and keep them sounding perfect night after night in arenas and theatres.

This is the kind of knowledge most audiences never get to see.

5: Inside The Engine Room Of Team Musicare

The masterclass takes place inside the studios at Team Musicare HQ in Clontarf, where creativity, community and real industry experience collide daily.

This event forms part of the broader Project Olympus 2032 vision, connecting people with the creative industries and showing exactly how the gears of music, production and performance actually turn.

Drumming Masterclass with Jackie Barnes at Team Musicare HQ (Brisbane) takes place on 12 March, 7-9.30pm. It's open to the general public – bookings essential (strictly limited places).
