5 Poetic Songs With Australian Poetry Slam Feature Performer Denni Proctor

Denni Proctor
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Twenty-two-year-old Palawa singer-songwriter Denni Proctor hails from Tasmania, now lives in Adelaide, and will be the feature artist performing at the SA Poetry Slam Heat 5.

She started out busking for love and became a regular festival bum until her passion for live performance and original music took her into the spotlight. She has supported Australian artist/ legends including Archie Roach, Xavier Rudd, Bart Willoughby, and many more. Adelaide is lucky to have this shiny new talent. Here are her Top 5 song lyrics, you might even call it poetry...

‘Mr Jones’ by Counting Crows

Everybody wants to pass as cats, we all want to be big stars, but we have different reasons for that.

‘Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay’ by Ottis Redding

Looks like nothing's gonna change, everything still remains the same. I can't do what ten people tell me to do, so I guess I'll remain the same.

‘Fast Car’ by Tracy Chapman

You got a fast car. We go cruising, entertain ourselves. You still ain't got a job, and I work in a market as a checkout girl.

‘Black Flies’ by Ben Howard

Still I'll be a traveller, a gypsy's reins to face, but the road is wearier, with that fool found in your place.

And maybe to be cheesy and to add a Tasmanian in the mix.

‘Black Beauties’ by Denni Proctor

A penny for your thoughts Denni, but my heads full of straws, always pulling short.
