5 Pieces Of Life Advice Queen P Wishes She'd Known Earlier

Queen P showcases at 2022 BIGSOUND.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Speaking their mind with true expression and confidence is the core essence of Queen P.

The South Sudanese-Australian rapper and poet blurs the line between hip hop, pop and R&B with her darting flow, impenetrable rhymes, and journey towards self-assurance – Queen P makes her mark as a 'Queen with Colour'.

Definitely outspoken and aiming to push the boundaries Queen P wears pride loud and clear. Rest assured you'll be hearing this flow for many more years.

Here, Queen P shares five life-learning moments she wished young Queen P had known.

1: Life is not a race, everyone has their time

After graduating from high school, I feel like I was subconsciously competing with my peers. I kept seeing people graduating, some getting married, engaged, having babies, buying houses etc. and that really gave me extreme anxiety.

I felt like I hadn't accomplished either of those at the time they were and it made me feel bad about myself. I wish I was more kind and patient with myself because I was living my greatest life and accomplishing small things that made me feel fulfilled.

Life isn't a race and we all have our own times for everything, so just be patient and enjoy the journey. :)

2: Nothing happens to you, it happens for you

Most of the things I went through has shaped the woman I am today, and all the things I'm going through now will shape the woman I become tomorrow.

I used to play a pity party for myself whenever something negative, stressful or hurtful happened to me. I would cry and say "why is this happening to me?" "Why are you doing this to me?" But honestly, all those things happened FOR ME. They happened for my growth. Life's sweet baby, always.

3. Our decisions create our future

Every decision we make now, will have an affect on you in two to five years time and everything you're dealing with now, is because of the choices you made five years ago.

Whenever I made bad decisions, I always told myself: 'I'm young, it's whatever', but just because I'm 'young' doesn't mean I can't be mindful of what I want for future me and how to work toward that.

Everything you do for you, is not for you. It's for future you. Live your greatest life boo, but be mindful of you choices and make smart decisions.

4: It's a small world baby, you can run from your problems but you'll just run into them again

OH MAHH GAWDD! I wish I learnt this lesson sooner. I tend to avoid problems or try to distract myself so I wouldn't have to worry about them but that did me no good.

Ignoring your problems or running away from them only prolongs the issue and eventually, you will have to deal with it. Better to do it sooner rather than later.

5: Cut off anyone or anything that doesn't bring you joy

You learnt to use scissors at a young age baby, CUT THEM OFF! I wish I knew earlier that it's ok to cut off people who do not bring you happiness. That includes family, friends, significant others and even that job baby.

Energy is everything and everything is energy, so do not allow toxic and negative joy suckers to consume all your energy. Go where you are wanted. Be around people who love you, value you and build you up.
