After spending several years in country rockers The Delivery (now known as Not Good With Horses), Dave Favours (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica) embarked on a solo career some time in 2012, releasing an album and an EP.
With a desire to play in a good, old-fashioned band again, Favours formed The Roadside Ashes late in 2016. The group is completed by Dave Hatt (bass, backing vocals), Simon Li (drums, backing vocals) and Aaron Langman (Pedal Steel, Lead Guitar).
While they don’t like labels, it’s fair to say that Dave Favours & The Roadside Ashes play alternative country in the truest sense. There’s definite influences from the best that the genre has to offer, including the Drive-By Truckers, Old 97s and Lucero.
Throw into the mix some 'Exile'-era Stones, Steve Earle at his most rockin’ and '80s punk and indie stalwarts like The Replacements, Husker Du and The Saints and you’ll get an idea of where they’re coming from.
"In honour of us having two Dave’s in the band, I decided to come up with the top 5 people named Dave," Dave Favours says.
1. Dave Allen
Comedian with half a finger missing who basically used to get drunk on television. Kudos.2. Dave Vanian
Frontman of The Damned who proves that you can be suave as all get out, but still called Dave.3. Dave Prowse
Darth freakin’ Vader. Proves that you can be evil as all get out, but still called Dave.4. Dave Coulier
Cut it out! He pissed Alanis Morissette off enough for her to write a song about him. Well done champ.5. Dave Warner
