Noongar-Wongi hip hop emcee, Flewnt's music reflects their unwavering commitment to community.
Heavily involved in various projects throughout Western Australia, they facilitate music programmes within detention centres and remote communities across the state, using music as therapy to empower marginalised youth.
Flewnt's most recent release is the late 2024 single 'This Is You', a collaboration with Māori hip hop artist Tehiiri – a powerful conversation about identity, resilience, and the unyielding strength of First Nations people.
Sparked by the racist backlash Flewnt received on social media for proudly flying the Aboriginal flag in the USA after appearing on 'America's Got Talent', 'This Is You' examines systemic inequality and the contradictions of nations that claim equality while perpetuating oppression.
"This track is not just music; it's a conversation – a powerful reminder that words, when used thoughtfully, can educate, inspire, and expose the truth," Flewnt says.
At BIGSOUND, Flewnt joins the Yarning Strong: Pass The Mic, Not The Trauma: Navigating Parenthood In The Industry panel to discuss how musicians manage parenthood while still creating.
Although a hip hop artist, Flewnt was raised on country music, which explains this listicle. "Country music shaped my upbringing.
"It was a big part of every blackfulla gathering around the fire, telling stories, sharing laughs, and feeling the music together. These are the artists who shaped the sound I grew up loving."
