5 Music Pals With The Paul McKenna Band

The Paul McKenna Band tour Australia May-June 2018.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Glasgow's The Paul McKenna Band have built a solid international reputation for their outstanding live performances and carefully crafted studio albums.

Frontman Paul McKenna sees the world as verses and choruses, and for over a decade he has travelled the globe as a musician collecting the stories of everyday and exceptional lives.

The band will embark on a 13-date tour of Australia in May-June with shows across Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and ACT.

The band shares a list of some of their favourite musical pals. "We spend a great deal of time travelling… these are some of our fave faces to bump into around the world."

1. Liz Stringer

The Princess of Australia! We love Liz's approach to life and love. Paul wrote a song with Liz that will be featured on the new album. She is a great mate and one of our fave festival pals.

2. Dave Gunning

The gentleman of Canadian folk music also has a co-write with Paul on the next album and we love to listen to his amazing accounts of hard working Canadians.

3. The East Pointers

From Canada's smallest island, these hipster tunsters [sic] are taking everyone by storm. We can't get enough of their new album and those amazing fiddle and banjo solos. Love these guys.

4. Foy Vance

An Irish man in Scotland has become a world icon. We played with Foy at The Canmore Folk Fest in Canada last summer and can't say enough about his brilliant music.

5. Cassie and Maggie MacDonald

You'd think we love Canada, but these two sisters have to be on the list. Just got off the road with these JUNO nominees who log more miles than us. Get a fiddle fix here. Can't beat their new album produced by Dave Gunning… it's a small world, eh?
