5 Memorable Twitch Moments Shared By 51st Avenue

51st Avenue are an alt-rock band from Sydney.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Sydney alt-rockers 51st Avenue's first new music of 2023 is the crushing intensity of 'Remnant' that features Julian Latouche of Inertia.

A song about experiencing a loved one's demise into addiction, 'Remnant' was mixed and recorded by Mark Williamson (Inertia, Closure, Keepsake) and mastered by Kris Crummett (Sleeping With Sirens, Dance Gavin Dance).

"This song explores how the excessive use of drugs and alcohol can drastically change a person," vocalist Alynnis Zizza says.

"The core of the person only remains through your memories – everything about them has changed and it's hard to see this happen to them."

After spending time recently in the studio, 'Remnant' is the first chapter of new material 51st Avenue plan to release later in the year.

Back in 2021 as all artists and bands struggled to maintain any creative momentum as lockdowns made it impossible to tour, 51st Avenue turned to Twitch and Discord to build their own community of loyal followers, who now tune in for regular performances as well as the band's own brand of 'chaos'.

Here, they share five memorable moments so far in their Twitch journey.

Our songs covered by other artists

We have been honoured to have had our original songs covered by some amazing musicians and artists: Aiden Somerville, Mirabellejien, Hajime and someguynamedtan.

These artists have each had their own take on our songs and honestly, do a better acoustic cover than we could.

The Collab Stream

Last year we invited Aiden Somerville, Hajime, someguynamedtan and Yuzu over to the 51st HQ for a collab stream. This was the first time the group of us were able to meet in person.

The stream lasted for five hours and we played a range of covers for the Twitch community. It was an amazing experience and we have plans to do more things like this in the future.

One-Year Anniversary

We have had so many great experiences on Twitch over the past year. We have met many new people, built a community and shared our love of music with people all over the world. It is something that we look forward to doing each week.

Our community knows us for our 'chaos'. Starting late, tech not working, forgetting songs and everything in between. We greatly appreciate each person that chooses to spend their time hanging out with us each week; it really means a lot.

Ambient Music Festival

We were lucky enough to be part of the Ambient Music Festival hosted by zenmodernlife. This was an event that ran for seven days with so many musicians and artists on the line-up.

This was our first Twitch community event and we were honoured to be part of it. Zen is an amazing musician who we are now lucky to call our friend.

Clip-Crescent

There have been so many funny moments on Twitch that it is hard to select which one makes this list. In our Discord we have a channel called Clip-Crescent’. This is where our community posts clips of our funniest moments.

These clips include Aly falling. . . several times, Ash messing up words, Scott dropping drum sticks and a whole range of other weird stuff that happens when you live. If you're interested you can join our Discord and see for yourself.
