5 Live Shows I’ve Seen That Were The Best With Teischa

Teischa
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Meet Teischa, the young Perth-based, self-taught pianist and vocalist, who emerges with her debut EP, ‘Midnight Hour’.

The release is both commanding and calm, gripping you with powerful vocals across bold production. Teischa shares five live shows that left a lasting impression with her.

1. D’Angelo

I saw D’Angelo play twice at Byron Bay Bluesfest in 2016. Both times I was in awe of his stage presence and how amazingly the band worked together. My favourite part was the last song when he played ‘How Does It Feel’ on the piano by himself. Next-level goosebumps.

2. Paolo Nutini

Ah, one of my all-time favourite voices. When I saw Paolo Nutini play in Perth four or so years ago he was super ill with gastro and literally ran off stage twice to be sick. Somehow, he still managed to put on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The highlight was towards the end of the set when they played ‘Iron Sky’. It sounded even better live than on record, which I didn’t think was possible. The passion and power in his performance was so inspiring.

3. Kendrick

After the ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ record came out I was so eager to see a live show. Even though we couldn’t get close enough to the front of the crowd to be able to really see him properly, the energy was so insane it didn’t matter. He played a bunch of new stuff as well as the classics. So good.

4. The Jezabels

I fell in love with The Jezabels when I was in high school and was so lucky to have the chance to play at a festival with them last year. Hayley is so cool and the most captivating and bad-ass frontwoman ever. I have never-ending respect for someone who can crowd surf and jump around on stage for the whole set while still singing like an angel.

5. Allen Stone

Allen Stone has so much soul and is so much fun to watch live. His band and backing vocalists are absolutely ridiculous as well. He hit this note during ‘Unaware’ and the whole crowd went mental and he starting laughing afterwards as if he didn’t expect it. I love it when you go to see an artist live and they seem so humble and down to earth, it makes you love them even more.
