Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Enigmatic underground looping artist Benny D Williams is a multi-instrumentalist and audio production wizard based in a rundown beachside shack on the Gold Coast.

This digital caveman combines traditional earthly instruments and rhythm with out-of-this-world sci-fi sounds and effects that feel like galactic voodoo.

New single ‘Cleanse Your Soul’, from forthcoming concept album ‘Cities Of Gold’, is a happy, sun-shiney song about summertime surf adventures with good friends that was inspired by a group of mates in a crappy old van, driving coastal on the hunt for ocean adventures.

Here, Benny shares five things you can do to have a happy, smiling life.

“Yeah, I know, all of this is fairly common knowledge kind of stuff. But as humans, we're easily distracted and sometimes it’s nice to get a reminder. There's more, but this is a top 5 not a top 100.”

1: Laugh

You really can't take anything too seriously and quite often, in tough times, if you ain’t laughing, you'll probably end up crying. So get your giggle on.

2: Do what you love

In reality, our short time on the planet is mostly irrelevant and in 100 years, no one will even remember you. So be what you wanna be and don't think you have to do something because it's the smart or sensible thing to do.

Do stuff because you love it. You will succeed because it’s your passion. Not just a job that pays the rent.

3: Exercise

Try and do a little bit everyday. Exercise really gets the happy chemicals rolling through your system and helps pump out the bad sh.t. I'm inherently a lazy piece of crap and exercise was a real game changer. You don't have to get rrrrripped. Just get the blood flowing.

4: Meditate

Seriously, this is another game changer for me. It really gave me space to think and also increased my ability to focus when I need to. If you don't know how to, there’s unlimited online resources that will help get you started.

5: Practise discipline

Doing this helps you develop personal control and dedication.

Whether it’s learning an instrument or sticking to a diet or a weekly routine, whatevs, after a while you'll develop inner pride and know that your will is strong and you can accomplish tasks that may seem undoable. All because you have the discipline to stick at it and get stuff done.

‘Cleanse Your Soul’ is available now. ‘Cities Of Gold’ album is released 29 November. Benny D Williams plays Currumbin RSL (Gold Coast) 23 November and 21 December.
