5 Iconic Australian YouTube Clips Selected By Kissinger Kruz

Kissinger Kruz's debut single is titled 'Push Up'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Kissinger Kruz is the collaborative hip hop effort of Cruz Patterson (Koi Child) and Nathan Tempra (Henry Kissinger, Silver Hills), a hip hop duo from Fremantle.

Earlier this month they released their debut single 'Push Up', a chilled joint of jazzy beats and flowing rhymes.

Here, they list their favourite classic Aussie YouTube clips. Bless. “Sometimes we can be a microcosm of America on the internet; the innate weirdness of our citizenry often makes for unparalleled internet gems.

“With only five to pick, here are five classic YouTube clips Shannon and I (Nathan) have put together for your browsing pleasure. Content warning, general foulness, language etc.”

1: Barking Dog Man on ‘A Current Affair’ (2010)

Number one has to be the infamous ‘Barking Ray’. A pensioner recalls his experience with two dogs quoted as “roaming the streets… with the council unable” to stop them.

Ray then flips the switch from bathroom light fixture to floodlights at the local speedway as he launches into what can only be described as a lighting tirade of frenzied barking, after which he shoots back into position, giving us the golden line “and I just made it into the front door in time”.

This behaviour is not unsurprising for his wife, as she calmly scrunches her face and lets her hair get blown back by rabid Ray's rampant ArarRARARAR-ing.

2: At 20 to 8 in the f*&^% morning (2018)

How could any of us forget when this man – clearly months away from his removal from the workforce and transition into telling people to “get that up ya” at the local RSL – graced us with a VB long neck at 20 to 8 in the morning.

This rare piece of footage is a montage of moments from our favourite VB swiller “fixing his knee up” all to a very special jingle which will inspire you (us all). Nathan’s favourite part at 0.27: “Mick's a prick, Mick's a prick aha haaaaaaaaa.”

3: IT'S DANGEROUS DEAR (2016)

Sliding on the rocks, as a metaphor or a reality, is dangerous. We know this, yet a couple were not deterred from trying to get a few barrels in during a storm.

Our protagonist (unseen for the video’s duration) throws vague caution to the wind, helping his partner out with the reminder that sharp rocks on the beaches edge, during a storm, have the tendency to be slippery little suckers. At this point lightning strikes and 15 of the greatest seconds of Australian YouTube were born.

This was Shannon’s life in 2016 and he could be seen or heard doing this (7/10 well) for months.

4: Hope you get the lot you dog

Not much to say here – a new classic. We’re sure a lot of you have seen it.

5: Nidaroot B&S Ball highlight reel (2016)

At the apex of turbo-charged, nitro-fuelled drenched Australian YouTube corners stands footage from various B&S balls (perhaps you’ve seen the Vice doco on them) and ute musters etc.

The accompanying track is the most deranged kind of Nickelback/ country maxibon of a song and it has some stinger lines.
