Aussie rock-pop band 1927 are bringing the '80s back to audiences around the country with a massive 39-date tour criss-crossing Australia from late April to early September.
Known for their radio hits 'If I Could', 'That's When I Think Of You', 'You'll Never Know' and 'Compulsory Hero', 1927 became instant overnight sensations with the release of their debut album '...ish' in 1988.The record would remain in the ARIA album charts for 46 weeks, going 5-times platinum with sales in excess of 400,000 copies. The band also won ARIA Awards for Breakthrough Artist in both the Single and Album categories in 1989 followed in 1990 for Best Video (for 'Compulsory Hero').
"Whatever you think you're going to see and hear is not what you're going to see and hear," the band's original singer and only founding member, Erik Weiderman says.
"If you have not seen this version of 1927 perform these songs live, well, I won't say you're in for a shock, you're in for a treat."
Given they'll be spending a lot of time on the road in the coming months, the band have shared their 5 go-to snacks. "Here's our top 5 go-to snacks when there's lotsa driving involved and not many options."
5: Fast Food
This is the easy option – fast food. Even the smallest of towns has a Maccas or the dirty bird. . . this is def our last resort.4: Olivers
Number four would have to be Olivers. . . the healthy option. . . I think Aaron on keys knows where EVERY Olivers is in Oz I'm certain. You can't go past without getting a pack of warm, steamed salty green beans rather than fries.3: Small-town Bakery
The small-town bakery where you can have the 'Best Meat Pie' around and also the best 'Vanilla Slice' EVER according to someone. We believe them as we're yet to have a crappy pie anywhere in Oz.
2: Brekky Bacon and Egg Roll
Thi is my personal favourite, the brekky bacon and egg roll with a smidge of tomato sauce. Standout ones are from a roadhouse just outside of Launceston airport, Tassie, and another roadhouse between Renmark, SA, and Mildura which was run by two sisters I think. . . small servo. . anyways they had them going out tha door like they were going outta fashion.
1: Servo Sausage Roll
Coming in at no.1 is the servo sausage roll. In 2023 I think it's very hard to find a crappy, old sausage roll or pie in a servo in a small town from my experience. In fact. . . in Bundaberg as we were leaving our hotel. . . Erik grabbed one as we were filling the car up and said and I quote "that's the best sausage roll I've had in over 50 years!" So there you go. . . The Servo Sosso!
1927 released two more albums in the early '90s – 'The Other Side' (1990) and '1927' (1992) - before disbanding; Weiderman reformed the band in the late 2000s with a new group of musicians touring with Roxette and Simple Minds, before releasing the band's fourth album 'Generation-i' in 2013.
Set to join the tour will be former Taxiride frontman Jason Singh.
