5 Gigs Of All Time With Last Dinosaurs

Last Dinosaurs
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

With the second album from Last Dinosaurs released last month – featuring favourites ‘Apollo’ and ‘Evie’ – the Brisbane lads start a national tour in their hometown this weekend.

Having played to a packed-out tent at Splendour, Last Dinosaurs will play six states and headline some of the biggest venues of their careers. Now, the band look back at their five, all-time favourite gigs.

Phoenix @ Brisbane Convention Centre

I remember having really high expectations for this show and they lived up to them. They are such a good band. The set was classic song after classic song, something only a few bands in the world can do.

The Strokes @ Splendour in the Grass Obviously

The Strokes are another band who can never play for too long. Classic after classic and they still looked like they were enjoying themselves even though they would have played all their songs a million times.

D’Angelo @ Brisbane Riverstage

It was an amazing experience to get to see D’Angelo play in Brisbane. It was a weird thing, I didn’t even know we were going to see him until the afternoon of the show when we managed to get some tickets. The whole crowd was vibing and his set was jam-packed with classics. Unforgettable.

The Cribs in Bangkok

We had a day off in Bangkok and got invited to go and see The Cribs play a secret show somewhere in town. It was the sweatiest, most jam-packed room I have ever seen and The Cribs were absolutely loving it. I was never a die-hard fan of The Cribs, but I recognised almost all of their songs and was loving it. It was just weird to be watching a band you listened to in high school playing in a pretty small room in Bangkok.

Questlove DJ set in Tokyo

This was another one of those random gigs I found out about on the day of the show. He’s one of the my favourite drummers and his ridiculous knowledge of music is pretty well-documented, so I had to go. The vibe in the room was so good. I hadn’t been to many hip hop shows in Japan, so it was pretty interesting seeing how the audience reacted. His DJ set was of course brilliant.
