A group who formed after a weekly jam night between Brent Williams (Pop Mechanix, The Moon), Rhys Lewis-Smith (The Moon, Mr Blonde) and Bruce Thomas (The Moon, Greg Brady Overdrive, Ancient Marinators) – who've all known each other since the late '80s – Grander Things was completed when the trio recruited long-time friend Liz Clear (The Amazing Woolloomooloosers, Yeah Yeah Yeah, Clear) whose 'vocals with attitude' perfectly matched their brand of indie rock.
2020 saw the Sydney quartet release the four-track EP 'Mash', but things stalled (like the rest of the music industry) when COVID arrived and the opportunity to gig-tour the EP evaporated. As the world continued to be shutdown, Grander Things decided to get busy with a new batch of indie-rock gems; the result is 'Supermoon' – a five-track EP that navigates gentle moments of angst and vulnerability as well as epic rock-outs that hark back to the golden era of rock & roll.
"Super proud of this one hope you all like it."
While Sydney's lockdown continues, with summer fast approaching and the possibility of travel restrictions lifting in the coming month (fingers crossed) Liz is dreaming of lazy afternoons spent at the beach, frolicking in the water and enjoying the company of friends and family.
"Second only to making music, my favourite pastime is to spend a day out in the sunshine with good friends, good food, some drinks and a splash in the ocean," Liz says.
"And while we can't go past our 5km just yet, here are my top five places to picnic and swim in Sydney. . . I am dreaming for those long, lazy summer days."
1: Milk Beach / Strickland House
Well before we were Grander Things, we were good mates and back in the early '90s before the lawns of Strickland House were open to the public we pretty much had this place to ourselves. They were our halcyon days and the best New Year's Eve parties were spent with this crew here. Still my all-time favourite place in Sydney.
