5 Favourite Places For Scouring For Secondhand Delights Shared By Estelle Conley

Estelle Conley is a folk singer-songwriter based in Melbourne.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Melbourne-based folk songstress Estelle Conley has just dropped her shimmering debut EP, 'Reunited' – a three-track release of gorgeous melodies, beautiful tones and lush rhythms.

Inspired by the likes of The Staves, Gillian Welch and Alela Diane, Estelle weaves personal themes of liminality, heartache and finding strength throughout the striking folk sounds.

To produce 'Reunited', Estelle worked with Melbourne-based musician and producer, Gamilaroi man Tyler Millott aka The Terrifying Lows.

With the melancholy track 'Secondhand Heart' hearting all things secondhand, here Estelle shares her favourite places to hunt for secondhand delights.

Goodbyes, Sydney Road in Brunswick

This is where I found the autumnal, '70s-inspired floral shirt in my 'Reunited' promo pic, and the ULTIMATE pair of red tartan woolen pants that saw me through my first Melbourne winter in 2020.

They carry a lot of fancy brands and they run decent discounts on different clothing items from week to week – look for the different coloured tags (and don't mistake purple tags for indigo like I did!).

Savers, Albert Street in Footscray

This one takes a lil bit of patience, but I have unearthed some absolute treasures amongst this mega store's many racks.

Swop, Smith Street in Fitzroy

For a fabulously curated affair, head to Swop in Fitzroy (also Newtown in Sydney and the places across the country).

The organisation by colour of their clothing racks fills me with pure joy. And if you've got some pre-loved items that no longer work in your wardrobe you can try to swap them for cash or store credit.

I'm sitting on a $100 voucher that I'm going to use to buy THE outfit for my EP launch on 8 May at The Toff.

Vinnies, Geelong South

If you're heading out Geelong way, make sure you stop into Vinnies in Geelong South.

I have never walked away from this place without something fab including my very own under-the-kitchen-sink compost bin, a brilliant array of serving platters, a rattan stool, teacups, and a gorgeous teal jumper knitted by someone's nana (well that's the story I've created anyway).

I'm planning my next visit for the Easter long weekend.

Vinnies, Hall Street in Bondi Beach

If you're in need of active wear, look no further. This place has the best collection of secondhand leggings that I've ever come across – goes with the territory I guess!

And then you can take those new, pre-loved leggings and sustainably walk yourself from Bondi to Coogee amongst the throngs of beautiful people.

Estelle Conley launches the 'Reunited' EP at The Toff (Melbourne) 8 May.
