A regular of Perth's live music scene, jazz-blues-soul artist Claire Fahie has the expressive vocal ability to get audiences dancing up a storm as easily as getting deep inside all the feels with her emotive performances.
A graduate of Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and influenced by the likes of Aretha Franklin and Eva Cassidy, Claire has performed a range of shows dedicated to her heroes including the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and Queen Bey Beyonce. Claire's latest show is fun, fancy, and just a tad bit frivolous as she brings the party vibes covering a variety of jazz, funk and soul classics inspired by Scott Bradlee's infamous Postmodern Jukebox.
Her next stop is performing Jazz Party! In The Style Of Postmodern Jukebox at Jazz By The Beach, which returns next weekend (27-28 August) to Perth's Scarborough for two days of roaring jazz feels that'll transport music lovers to the New Orleans French Quarter.
After staging a successful inaugural event in 2021, this year Jazz By The Beach features 50 musicians and 15 individual events in 10 venues across the Scarborough foreshore.
The entire programme features local world-class musicians including Libby Hammer Trio, Adam Hall Trio, Russell Holmes and Simone Craddock as well as the festival's founder-organiser Catherine Summers.
"We want to give people the experience of a New Orleans French Quarter feel and buzz with jazz spilling onto the streets, and where visitors can easily walk from one jazz venue to another," Catherine says.
The festival features a mix of free and ticketed events that will take place from brunch to lunch, afternoon into sundowner and evening parties; there's even a black-tie event.

1: The Ellington Jazz Club
The Ellington Jazz Club transports you back in time from the moment you step foot through their doors. Not only do they host live bands seven nights a week (often multiple shows a night, which as a fellow performer I value so highly), the general relationship between staff, performers and patrons is one, big family and I couldn't love the place more.2: Wolf Lane
Wolf Lane encompasses everything I love about a small bar. The quirky decor, friendly staff and delicious cocktails. There's something to be said about walking down a laneway and finding a hidden treasure. It makes me feel like I'm travelling the world on an exciting holiday.3: Anything in the State Buildings
The State Buildings. . . where to start!? This building to me demonstrates history, class and a true dining 'experience'. From Petition Bar to Wild Flower, you can't go wrong booking in at one of these magnificent venues. I hear there's a hidden jazz bar on the basement level too.4: Pica Bar
Pica is the perfect place to catch up with family and friends. It's a local hub for Perth artists and just next door to the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. You can relax outside in their spacious courtyard and watch the people of Perth stroll by.5: Joe's Juice Point
Joe's is one of those places you can be sure to have a good time. If you're up for a late-night beverage or some chicken wings, this place is it!
