Winner of Best Hip Hop Act at the recent WAMAwards, Perth rapper Susan Tuialii otherwise known around town as Hyclass brings plenty of soul intertwined with copious amounts of flavour to her music.

2018 has been a mega year for Hyclass: appearances at Listen Out, Groovin The Moo, Fairbridge Festival and RTR Winter Music Festival as well as supporting JessB, Horrorshow, Split Syndicate and Marksman Lloyd.

Her recent single, 'Queen', shares a sincere message to young girls and women from all different backgrounds about the importance of self-empowerment, perseverance and the power of togetherness.

Alongside her win for Best Hip Hop Act, Hyclass was also nominated at the WAMAwards in the Best Urban Act, Most Popular Act, Best Single ('Queen') and Best Video ('Queen').

She also loves olives, judging by the listicle she has supplied scenestr. "Olives, what's the big fuss? Well, don't knock them until you devour them," admits Hyclass.

"Because they are my ultimate go-to food. So let's check out my list and see how long it takes before you are going to your local deli to grab yourself a kilo or two."

1. Marinated green olives

Not only do they have a beautiful green hue, but these ladies and gentlemen are a sure way to get into my good books, perhaps even become the closest of dear friends.

Not only do they have a firm, buttery flesh but they are perfectly flavoured with garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, chives, oregano, red capsicum and with that extra garlic oil they will never dry up. I talk dirty to these babies. Enjoy on your own or in the company of someone you really care about.

2. Marinated Kalamata olives

The Kalamata olive grows under the Grecian sunshine and make the journey all the way from Greece to our tables. It is a place I have yet to visit and dream of doing so in the very near future.

But until then, one must settle for their local delicacy. The beautiful black or brown olive, with its silky smooth texture is a classic.

Not only do olives have many health benefits, but they also look great dressed in marinade or none. But if you're like me and enjoy the flavour, then the marinated Kalamata olives are perfect for you.

3. Green olives stuffed with chilli

Now and again, I love to add a bit of spiciness and kick to my life. Some people like to write love letters to those they admire from afar or just send DMs on Instagram, and others like to try their hand at salsa dancing.

Me? I take down these bad boys and then afterwards take down others with my dragon breath, ha! And who doesn't like enjoying ancient plants? I'm all for the olive and chilli combinations folks.

4. Australian wild olives

Life can be mundane and routine. Sometimes we've just got to let go of the day to day and take a walk on the wild side. So when I've had enough of the daily struggles of my first-world problems, I just have to look in my own backyard for the remedy.

These small, bullet-shaped olives are grown mainly in Victoria and South Australia, but thanks to my olive connections I have gotten my hands on them and have to say, they're intense. Just the way I like them.

5.  Picholine olives - the martini olive

When I was younger and I would watch those old Hollywood movies with the mysterious lady waiting at the bar with a martini in hand, I would always wonder: 'What do those green things taste like?' Ha!

So obviously when I became of age, legal to drink of course, I would eventually find out for myself just how good those olives would taste, and if I'm being honest maybe the martini wasn't dirty enough, but it wasn't the greatest pairing I had hoped for at first.

But after some years had passed and the palette became more refined, I now know Picholine olives are not just good in your salads, but they're great in that cocktail glass too or coffee mug, whatever is in arm's reach. Cheers yo.
