New York-based Australian producer and songwriter, Sir Winston today releases his first new music of 2020 in the form of the electronic-infused, garage-rock belter 'Hollywood Hills'.
"This track was written about a real experience that occurred in the Hollywood Hills, however the track was recorded at Transmitter Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York," Sir Winston says."The sessions were as crazy as the track. I wanted it to sound very organic. Hours went into tracking the simple, organic sounds like the tambourine and the kick drum.
"You can also hear my boot banging on the floor of the studio in time with the kick drum. We tried so many different things – I wanted to hear the room in the track.
"Doing the vocal was like an outer-body experience! We also messed around with so many different synths and spent hours and hours on guitar tones, trying so many fuzz pedals and vintage amps."
Sir Winston – whose music has been synced by Victoria's Secret and Maybelline – shares his 5 favourite gigs he's attended in New York City.
David Byrne: Kings Theatre, Brooklyn, New York, 16 September, 2018
One of the best shows I've ever seen – if not the best. It was absolute perfection. The renovated Kings Theatre in Brooklyn is stunning, an incredible place to see David Byrne. I'm a huge Talking Heads fan, but I'd never seen David Byrne live before.
It's hard to describe just how perfect this show was. It was so different to any other show I've ever seen. Theatrical. Sonically flawless. Mesmerising!
Jane's Addiction: Times Square, New York City, 12 October, 2014
Everyone should have a favourite band – Jane's Addiction have always been mine.I've been to so many Jane's shows. Jane's fans are legit; it's cultish, religious even. You never really know what you're gonna get at a Jane's show.
It's unpredictable; there's a lot of variables involved; the planets must be aligned just right or something – and when it all goes down, Jane's Addiction is the best f...ing rock show, 100 per cent.
This day, they killed it – playing right there in the middle of Times Square to thousands of fans on a perfect Fall evening in NYC. I was with a bunch of old friends; we were so happy. It was a perfect day. Magical!
WALTZ: Baby's All Right, Brooklyn, New York – 30 June, 2016
Matt Hutchinson's band WALTZ is the best new band in New York – and a lot of people agree. The shows are a spectacle. The songs are amazing. WALTZ have the drama of Nick Cave with the colour and enthusiasm of The Flaming Lips.
Baby's Alright is a wicked cool, intimate venue in Brooklyn and this show on a hot, summer night was so unreal. Matt was carried to the stage in an inflatable pink flamingo! Before you die, you must see WALTZ.
The Raconteurs: Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City, 6 September, 2019
Everything Jack White does is f...ing killer – his greatness is undeniable, his guitar playing is next level and his presence is ever-powerful.Jack White has no boss, but he is certainly yours when you're at his show where everyone's cell phone gets locked up until the end when you leave.
This gig was loud and punchy. Hammerstein Ballroom is an amazing historic venue. I went to this gig on my own and loved every second of it – an awesome show.
Kings Of Leon: The Rooftop at Pier 17, New York City, 2 August, 2018
Pier 17, this new rooftop venue right out on the water, has the most insane views of New York City.I'm a true fan of Kings Of Leon; there is an honest beauty to them, the songs are sweet and catchy, and this show was a perfect date night.
The crowd sang every word to every song, and when the heavens opened towards the end and the heavy rain poured down drenching everyone, it felt like part of the show. Fun and romantic!
