5 Favourite Gold Coast Restaurants According To Wongo

Wongo is set to play Circus Paradise Arts Music Festival (Gold Coast) on 10 March.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Part of the Box of Cats collective, Gold Coast producer/ DJ Wongo has been creating 'weird and wacky dance music' for more than a decade.

Aside from being a 5-times Australian breakdancing/ b-boy champion as well as remixing Queen Bey three times for Sony Music (you heard right, Beyonce), Wongo is mercurial creator of 'the boops and womps that tickle and stimulate your ear canals'.

Set to play the inaugural Circus Paradise Music Festival on the Gold Coast, Wongo shares his love of dining out with his favourite Gold Coast restaurants.

"So I spend pretty much every second working, sleeping or eating. Two of which are quite boring to talk about," he says.

"So as a typical millennial who thinks his taste buds are better than anyone else’s, here are my Top 5 Gold Coast restaurants."

1: Balboa Italian, Palm Beach

Not only is this where my wife and I go on special occasions, but their ‘4 Fromage Pizza’ and ‘Chestnut Gnocchi’ might just be better than Italian in Italy. That is a huge call to make.

2: Cafe Caribou, Tugun

This cafe supplies me with that sweet, sweet golden nectar called ‘COFFEE’, but is also the home to my favourite egg dish - the ‘Man's Eggs’. They are an epic way to cure a hangover any day of the week. Not to mention the babes that work there.

3: Betty's Burgers, Robina

Ever feel like a dirty cheeseburger, but scared of the shame and guilt you feel afterwards? Well Betty’s is as ‘healthy’ as it comes for DIRTY American food. Walk away feeling lighter than you arrived, but doubly as content.

4: Harry's Steakhouse & Bistro, Burleigh Heads

A ‘rare’ steak is something you have to test out and find in each city. Harry’s is definitely the place to order rare or blue. This is not to mention their unlimited FRITZ. Yes, all the fries a fried dude can ask for.

5: Tweed River Seafood, Chinderah

Fish, chips, tartare and seagulls, all sitting under the shade of a tree overlooking the Tweed River. Not even the bin chickens ruin the vibe of this joint. Absolute corker for a Sundee arvo.

Circus Paradise Arts Music Festival takes place at Broadwater Parklands (Gold Coast) Sunday 10 March.
