5 Favourite Gins With Glitoris

Glitoris are on tour with their debut album 'The Policy' in November.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Canberra punk rockers Glitoris will deliver their debut album, 'The Policy', next month.

With a driving rhythm section, crunchy riffs and angelic-demonic vocals, the album's title track evokes a Rammstein meets Led Zeppelin soundscape that will quickly become your next earworm.

"'The Policy' came together on a songwriting weekend at the coast," band member Andrew says.
"We had the basic idea for an overarching Glitoris anthem – something that was a very definitive statement about self-empowerment.”

'The Policy' was recorded at Sydney's Pet Food Factory studios with Jay Whalley (Frenzal Rhomb), mixed by Clem Bennett and mastered by Mandy Parnell (Bjork, The XX).

Ahead of its release and a run of live shows, Glitoris share their favourite gins. “The whole band runs on gin and tonic, so we want to share our favourites!”

1. Green Ant Gin

We love this. It’s incredible. Andrew thinks this is the best gin in the world. We first had it in Sydney while we were recording. It reminds us of Brisbane when we found this incredible gin bar and drank it all afternoon before the show. It’s made from green ants, collected in the NT and then distilled in SA. Malcolm likes to eat the ants. We’ve just drank half a bottle this evening.

2. Reid & Reid

Amazing New Zealand gin. We got through two bottles of this one in New Zealand when we played the Fringe Festival with Sound and Fury. It’s a really good one: sharp and clear. We fell in love with it. We all bought bottles of it duty-free on the way back.

3. Poltergeist

We drank this one in Hobart on tour with Regurgitator – sitting out on the waterfront looking at the Mona boats. It was the perfect winter’s afternoon. Poltergeist gin is beautiful. Lovely and dry. A little bitter. Reminds us of Tasmania.

4. Ink Gin

Wow - this one changes colour! This was a present for the band one time and we drank half a bottle in rehearsal. A bit of a gimmick with the purple colour but a really nice tasting gin - quite sweet.

5. Forty Spotted

Another incredible Tasmanian gin. We love Tasmania and we want to go back to perform at Dark Mofo. And drink all their gin, which is great. Also, McHenry’s is amazing, particularly their sloe gin and there’s a Damson gin that is also very good.

'The Policy' is released 2 November.
