Brisbane indie pop, rootsy singer-songwriters, McDermott & North's current single is 'Georgia', a delectable slice of guitar-drizzled indie magic that's an ideal jam for your next slow dance.
The pairing of Paddy McDermott and Rhys North, 'Georgia' is a change of pace from McDermott & North's earlier 2021 single 'Ally' (another guitar-driven, melody rich ditty); 'Georgia' also came together as part of Paddy's Tinder song-writing project."This song title actually came about because I had just broken up with my girlfriend and was on Tinder. When I matched with someone I’d write a song for them," he says.
"I matched with a 'Georgia' who funnily enough went on to become a huge Instagram sensation. When I sent her the song she never responded. So if you're out there, Georgia, I hope you enjoy it."
Regulars of Brisbane's local music scene since 2016, where they've honed their craft as buskers alongside a regular Wednesday set at The Red Room (University of Queensland), McDermott & North are looking to capitalise on the momentum 'Georgia' and 'Ally' has generated by attracting new listeners.
“We have been so blown away by the support for 'Ally', we're really just incredibly excited to keep sharing new music with everyone," Rhys says.
"I think the coolest thing is that we've finally managed to find a consistent sound in both live performance and our studio recordings. 'Georgia' is definitely one of those we're proud of."
