5 Fave Places Simon Astley Likes To Visit In His Home Town Devonport (Tasmania)

Simon Astley is a pop singer-songwriter from Tasmania.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

After the release of 'Everything Will Be All Right', his first single of 2021, Australian pop artist Simon Astley is gearing up for the release of his next new music.

Astley is no stranger to the TV screens, with appearances on the' Marngrook Footy Show' as well as 'Neighbours' and 'Underbelly'.

Again working with award winning Australian producer Sam Panetta (Kylie Minogue, Crowded House, Kisschasy), Simon's 'Waiting At The Door' is slated for release 20 September.

Here, Simon lists his five favourite places to visit in his home town Devonport in Tasmania. We'll take four mini sausage rolls, Simon – thank you.

Pub Rock Diner

This is my local, the place I like to head to for a beer and a catch up with mates. I love the atmosphere of this pub, and the great music acts they bring in, which keeps me going back.

You will find me there on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night when I can, sipping a pint of beer and having a shot or four ;) Well worth checking out when you are next in Devonport.

Banjo's

Banjo's Bakery has the best sausage rolls ever in my opinion. It's very hard to explain a sausage roll in terms of the taste until you have one haha, but believe me they are flawless. Best pastry too.

I normally have about three of the small sausage rolls; and sometimes I might throw a fourth one in just so number four doesn't feel left out.

Vice

Amazing coffee at Vice Coffee Shop. I have never asked them what coffee beans they use, but the taste of the coffee and the way they make it is amazing. Great atmosphere, hidden in a small shop entrance just near the Devonport Mall. I like to go there often for my coffee fix.

Don Bushland Reserve

I absolutely love the Don Bushland Reserve. There are many walks and bushlands around this area, with so many breathtaking views.

I normally walk from the Splash Aquatic Centre to the bluff. This is about a 4km walk, so I will do a return trip back to my car for a total of 8kms.

I won't make the Australian Olympic Walking Team anytime soon, but I enjoy going at my own pace and chatting to people on the way as they walk past. It's a popular walk, with so many locals walking the tracks on a daily basis.

Mersey Bluff Caravan Park

This caravan park is one out of the box. The location of the Mersey Caravan Park is incredible, and is a popular spot to go all year 'round.

I have spent a lot of time there in my caravan overlooking the Bluff Beach, and taking my son Hudson down to the playground just below the caravan park.

So many locals who live not far away camp there, as do tourists from all over the world. I love it how you can pop in there and catch up with friends who are staying there over summer, and your days and nights are sorted.
