Adelaide chanteuse MANE recently released her debut EP 'House Of Horror', a bluesy exploration of darkness.
“The making of the EP was a bit of journey in itself,” MANE explains.
“I went in with a really open mind and didn’t want to shut myself off to any ideas. 'House Of Horror' explores a lot of darkness that has been a result of past experiences or the experiences of others, whether that be resentment, self doubt, death or depression. It all comes under the one roof.”
MANE shares five of her favourite female artists that are also known by a moniker.
1. Montaigne
I first heard her 'Life Of Montaigne' EP last year and absolutely loved it. There is something so unique, intriguing and irresistible about her music in both a songwriting and production sense not to mention her unreal voice. I've become a pretty big fan of late.2. Meg Mac
What a funky sound Meg Mac has going on. Roll up your sleeves; her cover of Bill Withers' ‘Grandma's Hands’ has been huge favourite of mine. Her soulful voice matched with some rad harmonies and production has not only got me but so many others hooked. Her live performances are just as good. Can't wait to hear what's next.3. Lanie Lane
Lanie was recommended to me by another muso back in 2011. She has some major blues and jazz influences throughout her music especially in her 'To The Horses' record. I hear some Amy Winehouse vibes in her music; something about it oozes nostalgia.4. Alice Ivy
I first saw Annika (Alice Ivy) live at Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne towards the end of last year. I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. Her stage presence is so much; her beats matched with her live vocal and guitar sound had me hooked. She's doing some really cool things at the moment and has just dropped another single. Check her out.5. E^ST
I'm a newcomer to E^ST's music. But what I've heard so far I like: dark pop, modern production and a killer voice to match. I'm all about that. The 'House Of Horror' EP is out now.
