Canberra's riot grrls, Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers are back with another serving of spunky, edgy punk-rock with newest single 'AHHHH!' – a song about about standing your ground and, frankly, not putting up with people's bullsh.t.
"'AHHHH!' is loosely about navigating a relationship with someone you have known for a long time but their character changes," Teen Jesus' vocalist Anna Ryan says."You find yourself making excuses for them and forgiving them when the answer is clear that sometimes you just need to ditch and move the heck on!"
The quartet of Ryan, guitarist/ vocalist Scarlett McKahey, bassist Jaida Stephenson and drummer Neve van Boxsel, Teen Jesus are a group of socially conscious and astute young women no doubt inspiring a generation of girls.
"We just want to be loud," Scarlett says. "We're obviously into the punk side of things and speaking our mind, so it's not 'pop' fun, I'd say it's more 'angry' fun.
"At the end of the day, at the live shows we just want to allow everyone a space to have a really fun time and be themselves."
Here, the young ladies share a few things from their pre-show routine that have become a staple for the band.
Airport sushi
Two rolls of avocado sushi – preferably from an airport. We always find ourselves in various airports suddenly craving sushi and it's happened so often that now it's a staple in our pre-gig ritual.Vodka Cruisers (either watermelon or guava)
We all need at least three Vodka Cruisers before a show. Or two in our bellies and one on the stage waiting for us. It gets you to that perfect level of sugar-high and a lil tipsy and ready to rock out.The Veronicas 'Untouched'
This is our walk-on stage song that has become an absolute essential. It's the perfect intro to any Teen Jesus show and really gets us in the mood to shred.Matching Outfits
If you've ever seen us live, we guarantee we will be wearing matching-coloured outfits, with of course, our staple Doc Martens on. This is unless you see us at the airport the day after the show, and in that case we say sorry because we are catfishes.A Sharpie and piece of paper for the last minute writing of sets
This is an absolute essential for us. The fact that we consistently manage to have a Sharpie and paper ready, but don't organise ourselves enough to prep the set list earlier is a beautiful Teen Jesus trait that we will never change. We love the adrenaline of writing the songs down mere moments before playing them. While these are our essentials before any show, we definitely have post-show rituals and essentials as well, such as the corner kebab store right near the venue (because as we all know, gigs are just pre's for kebabs).
