5 Encounters With The Wild Side Of Touring Shared By The Wayward Suns

The Wayward Sons are a funk, hip hop act from Gold Coast.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

An energetic five-piece band from Gold Coast, The Wayward Suns blend together blues, funk and hip hop sprinkling in elements of roots and reggae that has seen them lighting up dance floors locally for the past few years.

The Wayward Suns join fellow headliners Krave and Kallidad at 2022 Jimna Rocks, a two-day camping music festival staged two hours north-west of Brisbane (30 April & 1 May) showcasing of bands across a diverse range of genres from South East Queensland, Northern NSW and Sydney.

Here, The Wayward Suns share a few wild stories from their own touring life.

1: Absolutely absorbed in the depths of a 'Nimbin fire' after a successful MardiGrass set, we found a baby crawling all alone outside in the bush in the early hours of stupid o'clock.

Our bass player Shogun races to the rescue, eventually locating the shook parents who said "is this the band who we owe are life too?".

2: Wayward styles. On several, separate occasions having a fan track us down after one of our shows to share the most humbling of life-testing moments – that our music has helped personally guide them through a death in the family, daily affirmations, a terminal illness, the birth of a child, finding their soul mate to our tunes.

While a group of absolute lords and legends have had our band name tattooed on their body.

3: Adventurously climbing a gargantuan and infamous Whitsunday waterfall in the rainforest with select warriors of the Wayward band, after rockin' out at a festival.

Then taking a leap of faith into the distant waters below, only to watch our lead guitarist JesseSun slap the side of his body, get a proper purple patch, then being advised that somebody lost their life doing the exact same leap the following day.

4: Frontman Buddha Brad had passengers of an entire plane embrace a Wayward song moment as a 747 choir, clapping and singing our latest single 'Yeah Nah'. So much sky high awesomeness.

5: Embracing basking in the sunshine of the remote wilderness and new found friends at basecamp, at the most epic yet intimate Jimna Rocks music festival, only to witness their individual artistry later on stage throughout the day and night, setting the stage on fire with so much unique back to back music.

A communiverse of melodic self-mastery at its best, reminding us that music is always the winner at the end of the day.

The Wayward Suns play 2022 Jimna Rocks that features 26 bands across 2 days at Jimna Base Camp on 30 April and 1 May.
