5 Dream Musical Hook-Ups With This Way North

This Way North
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Melbourne’s newest guitar/ drums duo This Way North is Leisha Jungalwalla (Jungal) and Cat Leahy (Sal Kimber & the Rollin' Wheel).

The pair crossed paths on the festival circuit in Canada in 2013 while touring with their respective bands. Some garage jams back in Australia quickly added up to something worth sharing.

Cat brings solid groove-based, left-of-centre drumming, while Leisha sways with swampy slide guitar, slimmed down soul vocals and punchy, alt-pop melodies. With new music and a January tour to promote, Leisha shares her top 5, dream musical hook-ups and the genius babies they would produce.

1. Prince & Meshell Ndegeocello

The guitar master of pop with the bass mistress of all things soul and funk. What their baby would produce would never be understood by us mere mortals, but we would love and worship it all the same.

2. Gloria Estefan & Freddy Mercury

Whoaaa... if you needed to take incredible divas to the next level you would with the offspring of these two legends of the stage. Imagine the stage presence and swagger of this child!

3. Jimi Hendrix & Janis Joplin

While I have read rumours of a possible hook up between these two at Woodstock, their love child has yet to come forward. But can you imagine the voice and the style that this baby would have? Not to mention the free lovin' and sweet outfits.

4. Tame Impala's Kevin Parker & Sia

Two of Australia's best musical artists at the moment; and I would say that we have ever had. These two musical geniuses would have a child that would write and record all the songs of at least three albums in the womb before even being born. And it would still go platinum.

5. Kanye West & Joni Mitchell

I just wanna see what this child would look like and what crazy kind of music it would produce... maybe amazing... maybe not. But just imagine.
