5 Dream Collaborators-Producers Smoking Martha Would Love To Work With In The Studio

Smoking Martha are an alternative rock band from Brisbane.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

As they build towards their next studio album, Brisbane rockers Smoking Martha are maintaining the momentum generated from their earlier 2021 single 'Good Girls' with another dose of slick rock & roll in the form of current track 'Liquid Sunshine'.

Once again working with producers Matt Bartlem and Luke Palmer at Studio Circuit, Natasha Doherty's powerful vocals (Courtney Love meets Gwen Stefani) energise 'Liquid Sunshine' with a '90s alternative rock soundscape.

"'Liquid Sunshine' is the love of the sea, the sun and the memories of young love over an endless summer," Smoking Martha explains.

The track's music video was captured by film director Tyson Lloyd (The Amity Affliction) on the Gold Coast, who kept it simply by embracing the band's high-octane, onstage energy.

"We wanted to keep this clip pretty raw and simple like the song itself," says the band. "A virtual representation of the band using overblown exposure and imagery for that nostalgic summer vibe."

Ahead of an appearance at Wallapalooza on the Gold Coast (they're also playing the postponed Halloween Hysteria next April), here the band share five producers-artists they'd love to collaborate with in the studio.

Mark Ronson

The talented producer has worked with such a wide range of artists, across genres too. His touch on a Smoking Martha record would be intriguing at the very least, and an invaluable experience to be a fly on the wall for.

We know he's done everything from pop to hip hop, indie to blues music but a full on rock album? Hmm! It would be an interesting take on the band, to see what influence of his many that he'd put towards us.

Butch Vig

An absolute icon as a musician and as a producer, incorporating Butch Vig into the Smoking Martha world is, of course, a dream. Not only is his work in Garbage inspiring, his production of some of the biggest songs to date is just impressive.

Lana Del Rey

Another maverick. Her simplistic approach to her dynamic style is so impressive and we would love to work with such a talent.

A.F.I.

They continually evolve their sound and look with every album, all the while staying true to themselves.

Fleetwood Mac

Probably one the most talented group of musicians in one band, and to be able to not only play but be around that would be life changing.
