2016 has been a crazy year so far for pop-rock act At Sunset.
They've already supported international heartthrobs R5 and The Vamps, had their own, national headline tour and released a new single, 'Kiss Me'. At Sunset also recently toured the Philippines, where they were treated they pop stars. Eyeball the video for proof.
The band share five, crazy moments from the tour.
1. When we first arrived in the Philippines, before we exited the plane's terminal, we were escorted through a private customs. At the time, we weren't sure what was happening. We'll be honest, we were a little scared. After leaving the airport, we were told there were hundreds of fans waiting at the airport to meet us and it was a security risk having us exit through the normal terminal.
Crowd at shopping centre in Manila
2. Playing our first shopping mall in Manila! This was a crazy experience. We've never had so many people in one place waiting to see us! To sum it up, it was pandemonium. To be honest, we never in a million years expected such a crowd. It was the most surreal feeling either of us had ever experienced. Seeing thousands of people, screaming our names, wanting to hear our songs. Singing along with us! We won't ever forget it.
3. I guess that brings us to the next crazy experience. Leaving the shopping mall. After the show had finished we were taken to a green room. We were told we would have to run from the green room, 50 metres to the shopping mall exit where a van would be waiting for us. Everything was planned, down to the number of security guards that would be needed to hold back fans. What no one accounted for was how strong these fans actually were.
It was time, ten guards arrived, stood in front of us while we all charged towards the exit. It took about five seconds for the first fan to see us and call the rest of the stampede! The crowd pushed us back and as hard as the guards pushed, we were pulled back into the green room. We called that the #FirstFailedAttempt. Extra security was called and a barrier was created between the green room and the exit, and we managed to make it out.
At Sunset with Boyce Avenue
4. The next crazy experience was meeting one of our favourite bands. We have been fans of Boyce Avenue for years. The covers they produce, how they change the original sounds to suit their own, but mostly their own music. It's inspiring to see an act with such a massive and loyal fan base who are passionate about the music they write. We want our fans to know and love the music we write for them too. It was an absolute pleasure to meet and play a show with these guys.
5. The last crazy experience would be playing an arena show in Manilla. We performed on the same stage as artists such as Prince, Michael Jackson, Westlife and many more. We couldn't be more thankful for the chance to play and will always remember the feeling of rocking out with 10,000 people singing along!
