Last month, Australian-based DJ Jesabel dropped her debut single – the electro-pop infused 'Gemini'.
While this is her very first release, Jesabel has an almost decade-long DJing career that has seen her play alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran, Martin Garrix, and Bliss N Eso, not to mention festival appearances at Ultra Australia, Stereosonic and Future Music Festival."After eight years of DJing and working to discover my sound, my greatest achievement in this career so far is here and I could not be more ecstatic!" beams Jesabel.
Now she has added to the original production by showcasing her remixing skills with an adrenaline-pumping, euphoric remix that builds with some big energy before bursting into the bass-heavy choruses.
The first woman DJ to mix Ministry Of Sound's 'The Annual' compilation in 2015, Jesabel has previously being a MTV presenter as well as radio host on iHeart Radio's dance station.
Here, Jesabel divulges five crazy experiences she has had DJing at festivals.
Private plane / no reception
There was a private gig I performed at back in 2017. Private parties aren't something I do often, but my agency made an exception for this one. It was a 21st in Moree, which is very remote! The mode of transport was a family-owned, private plane. It was like a car in the air. Rightly or wrongly, the craziest part is that the pilot actually let me fly the thing. Such a wild experience.
This venue was so remote that it also meant absolutely no phone reception; not ideal and definitely was an adjustment for the 24 hours that I was there. I was hot-spotting like a crazy person off their wi-fi. All in all, a great experience.
10,000 togas
This was a crazy sight! Think about a sea of togas. White sheets for days. There were 10,000 CQ University Brisbane students who packed out this warehouse and proceeded to go absolutely wild for the following few hours for the world's biggest toga party. With a line-up consisting of Timmy Trumpet, Uberjakd and myself we had the most amazing time playing to such an energetic crowd. Those gigs are always the most exhilarating – really gets the adrenaline flowing.
Festival On A Cruise
This was absolutely insane. Imagine the biggest festival, but now imagine it on a cruise ship. That's what It's The Ship, Singapore was in November 2019.Imagine four stages and non-stop world-renowned DJs and music. One of the most amazing experiences. It is a constant fun time with all the music, swimming, sun-baking, activities, games and a beverage or two.
The DJs mix with the audience constantly, who have also come from far and wide, and it honestly just feels completely unified. Great feeling.
Post-COVID Gig
Honestly, my first gig back post restrictions at Monsoon Darwin was some of the craziest energy I've ever experienced from a crowd. It was so electric and just had a completely different vibe to before COVID.The crowd genuinely just wants to enjoy themselves and have the night of their lives. Dance moves were big, but smiles were bigger.
It was so surreal to me because coming from Sydney where restrictions were still in place, it felt wrong to see people arm to arm but once that wore off I had the best time. . . I played for an extra hour! That's how much I was loving it.
Drenched At Stereo
Performing at Australia's largest music festival was crazy in itself, but to be soaked through was a whole other thing!I was performing fairly early on in the day and was stoked with how the set was going; couldn't have been happier. Any gig requires a level of effort but festivals of this calibre meant bringing out all the stops when it comes to outfit, hair and make-up.
Just as I had finished my set, the roof caved in slightly, completely soaking me through with a puddle of rain from the night before. Definitely not the ideal situation, but hey at least I'd finished the set I guess.
