Brisbane singer-songwriter (and member of veteran rockers Screamfeeder), Kellie Lloyd will be headlining local event Sunlit Sounds Festival next weekend alongside Babaganouj, Asha Jefferies and others.
With three solo releases, her most recent being 2017's 'Fragile States' - that she describes as "basically a collection of things recorded over the last couple of years that were never really going to be anything, until they came together" - Kellie will serenade the Sunlit audience with her collection of warm and beautiful songs.
Ahead of the show, Kellie shares 5 Aussie films you've probably never seen. Time to book a movie-marathon weekend. [Ed's note: If you haven't seen 'Dogs In Space' rectify that fact immediately; Michael Hutchence is outstanding in the lead role.]
1. 'Dogs In Space' (1986)
You've seen this though, right? I don't even know who you are anymore.2. 'The Boys' (1998)
Directed by Rowan Woods, the film stars David Wenham as the ever-scary dead-eye toxic Aussie male character diametrically opposed to loveable Diver Dan he became famous for. This movie is so chilling, not only because of the edgy soundtrack provided by The Necks, but with excellent performances by Toni Collette and Lynette Curren, and based loosely on the lead-up to the murder of Anita Cobby, this movie is really one of the great Australian films that is very hard to watch.
3. 'Ghosts… of the Civil Dead' (1988)
Another film that is hard to watch. It stars Nick Cave and Dave Mason (The Reels), and is the directorial debut of John Hillcoat, who also directed 'The Road' (based on the devastating book written by Cormack McCartney) and 'The Proposition' starring Guy Pearce.Set in the desert, this nihilistic and brutal, new high-tech security prison system makes most current prison TV shows look like a holiday.
4. 'Somersault' (2004)
This movie is kind of like our 'Virgin Suicides'; beautiful and dreamy, directed by Kate Shortland and starring Abbie Cornish and Sam Worthington, it is set in snow covered Jindabyne with an outstanding soundtrack by Sydney band Decoder Ring.5. 'Lantana' (2001)
This beautiful film produced by Jane Chapman and directed by Ray Lawrence stars an amazing cast of classy actors such as my high school crush Vince Colosimo, Anthony LaPaglia (his little bro is host of 'Australian Survivor') and one of my favourite actors Rachael Blake (who was in that awesome Australian drama 'Wildside').The movie is all about adult relationships, anxiety and deceit.
