With a string of east-coast headline shows Brisbane's best blend of soul-soaked, brass-fuelled pop, funk and ska, Cheap Fakes recently released their new single 'Touch N Go'.
'Touch N Go' is the first offering from Cheap Fakes' upcoming fourth studio album. It marks a distinct progression in the band's sound and was initially inspired by a Groove Armada video as Hayden Andrews (vocals/guitar) explains.
"I really loved how Groove Armada were playing electronic dance music, but played by real instruments. It was just an idea, a groove, a riff. It didn't go any further than that originally until a late night recording session at Love Street."
The band share 5 tracks you may not guess where on their playlists.
1. Pantera - 'Slaughtered'
Despite being a relatively chilled party band a few of us guys are into some pretty heavy music. Pantera has a fond place in my heart. My friends and I used to have metal parties where we'd stand around in a group and headbang! Maybe that's why my neck is sore all the time... hmmm.2. Prince
Really it's no secret that our multi-instrumentalist trumpet/ keys player, Scotty Bignell, is an absolute Prince freak.3. Spyro Gyra
American jazz-fusion band formed in '74. I was recently introduced to them by our drummer, Sam. Holy cow. Insane musicians and intricate compositions. So good.4. Laura Marling - 'Soothing'
What can I say? She's got the most beautifully natural voice. The production is great and Laura's vocals just soar above it. I saw her live recently and it was amazing.5. Mr Bungle - 'California'
One of my favourites of all time. Insanely creative, insane production, insane musicians, insane vocals from Mike Patton. So diverse. Just an enjoyable listen all round. Lovely.Cheap Fakes Shows
