Sydney-based indie aficionado and storyteller, Thomas Keating has been crafting intimate tales of home and country life since he first broke onto the scene with his band Thieves back in 2012.
With inspiration from classic rock & roll luminaries Gareth Liddiard, Nick Cave, The Triffids, Paul Kelly and more, Thomas released two EPs with Thieves before his artistic endeavours morphed into four-piece Good Counsel, who released an album and EP before parting ways in 2016.
With a wealth of songwriting experience and a backlog of new music to unpack, Thomas bunkered down to write his forthcoming album before heading into Sydney’s Ever Land Studios to record. The album is expected to be released in 2018.
The lead single is 'Begin Again', an apt alternative-country take on the personal struggles of starting afresh.
Thomas shares 5 musical acts who have inspired him to follow a similar path.
1. The Beatles
I started listening to The Beatles when I was 16 and became obsessed with them. I used to watch Beatles documentaries over and over again.2. Elliott Smith
The dark side of pop; one of the greatest and saddest.3. Gareth Liddiard/ The Drones
In my opinion some of the greatest Australian songs ever written. Gareth’s lyrical skills make me lose my mind.4. Manchester Orchestra
I loved their first two albums, so emo. I have always been a big emo kid.5 Kevin Devine
This man knows how to craft a song like the best of them and his music has always inspired me and continues to. I had the pleasure of opening for him when he was over in 2015 and he’s a real gentlemen too.Thomas Keating Tour Dates
