5 Artists Supathick Would Die To Work With

An indie funk-soul collective, SUPATHICK's new EP is titled 'In The Thick Of It'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Built around the musicianship and songwriting talent of Christian Zappia, SUPATHICK recently released their sophomore EP, 'In The Thick Of It'.

Four tracks drizzled in cool funk tones and smooth indie instrumentation that oscillates between suave pop sensibilities and R&B-laced groove-rock melodies, Keely Brittain adds her powerful, alluring vocals that ices the Supathick cake perfectly.

"This second EP, for me, is really about learning to trust my own instincts musically and creatively," Christian says.

"Each song lives in its own world and has its own colours, which I think happened more naturally than intentionally.

"'Healin', 'Love Back' and 'Own My Mind' are all love songs to an extent, but differ in the angle they take, and 'Little Bit More' is more of a reflective track I wrote after a talk with my Dad.

"He told me when John D Rockefeller was asked, 'How much money is enough money?' he answered with, 'Just a little bit more'. And that guy was filthy rich. So it's kinda a slow down and smell the flowers type vibe."

With Christian and some members of his SUPATHiCK collective recently moving from Perth to their new home base Brisbane, here he lists five artists he'd die to collaborate with them.

Cosmo's Midnight

Kings of the disco/ dance genre, I'd love to get funky with them.

Tom Misch

The guy that really helped me find my sound as a guitarist, and showed me that funk is still cool.

Nile Rodgers

The grandfather of funk guitar! I'd love to just be in the same room as Nile and take in his energy. The man is funky without even picking up a guitar.

Client Liaison

I heard Queen when I was in high school and it left me in a trance. The Client crew are the epitome of  style and soul in Australia.

The 1975

My day ones. They don't miss, nothing more to be said.
