Adelaide musician Kyan Burns continues on her solo path, today releasing her third single 'We Won't Let Them Win' – a track dedicated to kids everywhere.
The follow up to Kyan's previous single 'Guess' – which scenestr premiered the music video last year – Kyan's newest song features hip hop artist Boffa and a children's choir.Kyan wrote the song after seeing many young children struggling to cope with the pandemic and the associated lockdowns. "This song means so much to me because I have watched friends and family struggle with mental illness.
"But through the pandemic, I saw so many young people transition to online learning, which was pretty isolating for them at times, and with online bullying rife for young people, it made me want to speak out for them.
"I was feeling so overwhelmed by everything going on around me, there seemed to be so much angst everywhere I turned.
"I wanted to write something about fighting back and bringing people together rather than focusing on the sadness."
Recorded at Palomino Sound Recorders in Myponga by Tristen Bird, the song features Sheryl Crow's Nashville drummer Fred Eltringham.
While a video clip was filmed by Nick Berry-Smith and directed by filmmaker Gareth Wilkes featuring children from TIDC and Type Talent alongside Kyan and her band.
"This is my third original single after 'Guess' and 'So I'm Telling You', but this one means the most.
"I wrote it while struggling to adapt to the huge changes that were taking place so the meaning is so important to me. Having a top-notch team to work on it has also been an absolute joy."
Here, Kyan shares some travel stories from her global adventures.
New Orleans
The French Quarter has such an amazing vibe every night. You can see so many amazing musicians while drinking cocktails and trying some delicious, hearty southern food.I became addicted to gumbo and blackened gator! We also got to experience a swamp tour in the Everglades on airboats, which was so much fun and something different.
Barcelona
It has a little bit of everything. You can explore the gothic quarters or head to the new town and enjoy the La Rambla markets or take a long walk along the harbour. Enjoying some sangria and paella while making new friends is one of my favourite memories.Hanoi
I love the bustling city of Hanoi. I loved tasting all the local food and people watching while enjoying a drink at a beer corner. Vietnam in general has so many beautiful places to see.Berlin
Berlin is such an incredible place to explore. There is street art and graffiti everywhere, so it's like a feast for your eyes. There is so much history and it's so nice to jump on a bicycle and roam around the beautiful gardens.I also managed to get into Berghain while I was there, so that was such a bucketlist moment. If you're not sure what that is, then make sure to look it up!
Dublin
Temple Bar – the atmosphere here is amazing. I found myself drinking beer in an Irish pub while listening to some live music and singing along with the locals. It was such a surreal experience.Temple Bar has such a pumping live entertainment and social scene, so I was so glad I was able to check it out.
