If you're in Melbourne looking for some happiness, grab your little green bag and boogie on down to Preston-Reservoir Bowls Club for the fourth annual Reservoir Stomp.
This year, Reservoir Stomp presents a packed programme of local artists from all walks of life, ranging from established musicians and newbies, to members of the community that often struggle to have their voices heard.
The 2019 performance line-up for Reservoir Stomp features the talents of Remi, Cookin’ on 3 Burners + The Wolfgramm Sisters, Ponyface, Tek Tek Ensemble, Freya Josephine Hollick, Empat Lima, Madeline Lehman And The Desert Swells, Pico Sound System feat. Cumbia Cosmonauts, Barbarion, Rebetika Ensemble, Box Wars, Bongo Brothers, Outer Urban Projects and Rezza Rockers Primary School Band, all MCd by Emma Peel, Danny Walsh and Talei Wolfgramm.
In a new initiative, event organisers and proud Reservoir locals Danny Walsh and Emma Peel have brought together a number of prominent local musicians and songwriters to work on an album dedicated to the wonders of Reservoir.
Entitled ‘Cheddar Road’ after the suburb’s most peculiarly named and infamous roads, it features members of The Waifs, The Rechords, The Putbacks, Cat Canteri and more. The project will be performed for the first time at this year's Reservoir Stomp. There's also Barefoot Bowling comps, the Reservoir Makers Market, local food trucks and cool stuff for the kids.
Reservoir Stomp has become a raging local success since Danny and Emma started it in 2016 as a way to boost the profile of Reservoir and showcase the plethora of talent lurking within the suburb's borders.
On the surface, the Reservoir Stomp might appear to be 'just another music festival', but dig a little deeper and you’ll discover it’s so much more than that.
It’s one of the only opportunities for local artists to perform in their neighbourhood and for Reservoir residents to engage with live music and connect with each other. Emma, Danny and local funding bodies agree it’s helping to build a better community by giving locals a place to celebrate the history and continuity of Reservoir life.
Reservoir Stomp is on at Preston-Reservoir Bowls Club (Melbourne) 17 November.
