The legendary Sydney Opera House has put together an enviable line-up of talent to celebrate its 40th birthday.
Baz Luhrmann, Deborah Mailman, Sarah Blasko, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, John Butler, Megan Washington, Paul Grabowsky and members of the Wharf Revue, among others, will take to the Opera House Forecourt stage at twilight on Sunday October 27. The evening will conclude with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the same piece that opened the Opera House in 1973.
The celebration will then continue through to December with film screenings, opera, architecture, design events, and a giant birthday cake.
"Sydney Opera House is such an iconic cultural venue," said John Butler. "Every time I go there I am awestruck by its confident design, massive history and sublime setting."
