It's a trip down metal memory lane as Utopia Records celebrates their 35 year anniversary.
The store is the home base for all the stuff your mum warned you about. With the walls lined with posters of metal heroes, memorabilia, the music up-loud and hair flying on the stores TV – the shop looks just like any 15-year-old metal lover's bedroom.
Perhaps it's this, alongside metal fans' strong devotion to the genre, that has kept the Sydney-based store alive. Despite an onslaught of adversity like floods, the death of metal glam and the overall decline in the popularity of record stores in general, the store still stands.
Utopia is also one of the only places in Sydney that hosts in-stores, with their trophy case featuring skulls signed by the likes of Slayer and Sepultura. (Kedavar are set to visit the store November 27.)
The store is having a massive sale both in store and online with everything being heavily discounted to celebrate their upcoming birthday.
One lucky person will also win a 'Mountain of Metal' – with signed albums, CDs, DVDs, LPs, T-Shirts, Motorheadphones, Limited Edition Art and more in the mix.
