2024 WAM Song Of The Year Winners

Rein Mali

A new generation of Western Australia music talent has taken the spotlight at WAM's 2024 Song Of The Year awards, staged last night in Fremantle at Freo.Social.

Indo-born, Perth-based R&B/ soul artist Rein Mali has taken out the coveted Grand Prize, with the soulful, gospel song 'Game Of Love' – a collaboration with Perth hip hop artist CHISEKO.

Joan & The Giants have again placed Runner Up, for the second consecutive year, with their Rock-winning track 'Born In The Wrong Time'; while the Folk-winning song 'The Miner' scored Good News Now We Can Eat All The Vampires the Second Runner Up award.

Mandurah indie charmers Sunny Day backed up their Outstanding Regional win in 2023, claiming the same award for the delightfully titled 'Dad Says I Need To Buy A TV'. Perth's alternative singer-songwriter, guitarist RinRin again took out the Heavy/Metal award for the second consecutive year with 'Miss Miserable'.

The winner of the Act Belong Commit category was Sofia Gale, with her song 'Laugh'. Sofia, a 16-year-old singer-songwriter from Perth, has previously received three nominations for the WAM Song of the Year awards, winning the Schools 14 Under category in 2023.

Healthway is proud to partner with WAM to promote the Act Belong Commit health message. Healthway Chief Executive Officer Colin Smith congratulated Sofia for being recognised again with an award, this time winning the Act Belong Commit category.

"Thank you for your uplifting song that inspires us all to look after our own mental health and wellbeing," he said. "Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, and to WAM for organising such a great event that supports and encourages the music community to look out for their own and others' mental well-being."

Grievous Bodily Calm took home two awards (Electronic and Jazz); other notable winners include Sash Seabourne (Blues/Roots), Boox Kid (Outstanding Indigenous), Sophian (Pop) and Wesley Black (Punk/Hardcore).

The 2024 Song Of The Year live event featured live performances by Boox Kid as well as 2024 nominees Claudia Tripp, Drea, LUCI and MAGE.
