The winners of West Australian Music's (WAM) 2022 Song Of The Year have been awarded during a spectacular awards ceremony staged at Freo.Social (20 June).
The results echo the diversity and talent from both emerging and established artists in the West Australian contemporary music scene. The Grand Prize was taken out by Dulcie for 'Test Drive', a song that "captures the feeling of being in a one-sided relationship – the kind where you doubt your partner's intentions are aligned with yours, or if you're being led on".
The trio of Ashleigh, Saskia and Timieka embark on another national tour in a week's time, and the Grand Prize is a great note to send Dulcie on their way.
"WOW! We attended the WAM Awards last night and honestly didn't expect we'd be walking out with one prize, let alone the Grand prize," adds Dulcie.
"Thank you so much to WAM: West Australian Music, Act Belong Commit and all the amazing sponsors that make this event happen.
"We are so so grateful. WA has such a beautiful music scene and it's so nice to come together to celebrate."
Joan & The Giants' Rock category-winning song, 'Cool Kid', was declared Runner Up and Heavy/Metal category winner RinRin received Second Runner Up for her song, 'Guns And Grenades'.
"Not even sure how to process last night," shares Joan & The Giants, who also scored the Outstanding Indigenous award for their song 'The Weekend'.
"These are the first WA Song Of The Year prizes we've ever won and somehow we walked away with three!
"Thank you so much WAM: West Australian Music and Act Belong Commit for these awards, and all the incredible sponsors too.
"Huge congrats to all the nominees and winners, we feel so grateful to be part of this beautiful music scene – this means the world, thank you."
