Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Almost 70 Queensland artists and bands will vie for 17 categories when the 2022 Queensland Music Awards (QMAs) ceremony is staged late next month in Brisbane.

The assorted list of finalists showcases a diverse breadth of talent across the state, both established names as well as emerging talent destined for larger stages.

With a who's who of Queensland's music industry set to gather under the chandeliers of The Fortitude Music Hall (29 March), the QMAs is produced by QMusic.

"We have some of Australia’s most exciting names in music up for awards including The Jungle Giants, Ball Park Music, DZ Deathrays, WAAX, Casey Barnes, Eves Karydas, Nat Dunn, Sampology, and Golden Vessel," QMusic CEO Kris Stewart says.

"The QMAs is also a golden opportunity to be among the first to hear from the next big names in music such as Hope D, Zheani, Felivand, Hallie, Freight Train Foxes, Hayley Marsten, Hollow Coves and iiiConic.

"I invite music lovers across all genres to book their tickets today and join us at Fortitude Music Hall for what will be a stellar night of good times and great music."

Established in 2010 in honour of the late Billy Thorpe, the four finalists for the 2022 Billy Thorpe Scholarship were also named: Alex Edwards, CLOE TERARE, DENNIS. and Jem Cassar-Daley. The winner will receive $10,000 to record professionally as well as a career planning package.

"Queensland's contemporary music sector continues to pave a pathway of hope, healing and happiness," Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch says.

"These four talented nominees are just a small part of live music's significant and dynamic contribution to our state's diverse arts and cultural offering."

Meanwhile the state's best festivals and major events as well as live music venues (metro and regional) will battle it out across three awards for the People's Choice Awards (presented by Oztix and scenestr), with voting now open.

The public vote with input from an expert industry panel will decide the winners. Everyone who casts their vote is in the running to win an overnight stay at New Farm's Calile Hotel and a double pass to the 2022 QMAs ceremony.

2022 Queensland Music Awards takes place at The Fortitude Music Hall (Brisbane) 29 March.
