With the first of two Record Store Day (RSD) set to take place this weekend (12 June, then 17 July), vinyl lovers nationwide are salivating at the prospect of adding to their record collections.
After the virtual events of last year, record collectors will be able to attend a host of specially organised events featuring live music, deals and discounts, as well as digging through lots of lovely vinyl (of course).Given the continuing uncertainty COVID-19 is still producing, each store will operate a little differently. Some will install one-way systems with marshals. Others will feature distanced queues. Though there'll be plenty of hand sanitiser available for safe crate digging.
This annual event reiterates the importance of the traditional music outlet as one of the major avenues for the public to discover the many genres of music releases each year, with around 50,000 music lovers visiting their favourite store to take part in the day – and to queue up for one of the special limited edition releases from the record companies released each year.
